New Form I-9 Required as of April 3rd, 2009

Effective Friday, April 3, 2009, all United States employers are required to use the revised Form I-9 to verify the employment eligibility of all new hires and re-verifications. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) interim final rule that was published on December 17, 2008, outlines this requirement. This revised Form I-9 can be identified by the revision date (2/20/09) located in the lower right-hand corner of the form.

The new Form I-9 is available in PDF format at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

The most significant change to Form I-9 is the requirement that all documents presented during the Form I-9 completion process be unexpired. This and other revisions are detailed in Questions and Answers: USCIS Revises Employment Eligibility Verification Form.
