PA Elementary School Closes for Roof Study

At its meeting last night in Pennsylvania, the Clearfield Area Board of School Directors voted unanimously to approve the temporary closure of Girard-Goshen Elementary School due to structural issues with its roof.

The school is only eight years old but has had issues with roof leaks since 2005. The district originally thought the problem was due to improperly installed or defective roof shingles, but Taylor’s report stated there are structural issues with the roof.

The board decided to close the school after receiving an engineering report on the roof. The engineer determined the problem was not due to the shingles but due to the roof flexing, and according to the report, there is evidence of water leaks throughout the facility and the roof appears to have significant structural deficiencies.
