Federal contractors must use E-Verify starting Sept. 8

The Obama administration continued its push for a legal workforce Wednesday with an announcement that federal contractors and subcontractors would soon be required to verify that their employees are eligible to work in the U.S.
As of Sept. 8, the Federal government will award contracts only to companies that use the E-Verify system to determine their workers’ immigration status. Companies that also receive stimulus funds must also use E-Verify.

New Form I-9 Required as of April 3rd, 2009

Effective Friday, April 3, 2009, all United States employers are required to use the revised Form I-9 to verify the employment eligibility of all new hires and re-verifications. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (”USCIS”) interim final rule that was published on December 17, 2008, outlines this requirement. This revised Form I-9 can be identified by the revision date (2/20/09) located in the lower right-hand corner of the form.

Is White the New Green? New Study from Climatic Change.

The idea of cool roofs and cool pavement bouncing more of the sun’s heat back into space has been around for years. It has long been known that white roofs in Greece and Spain keep buildings cooler –and help counteract against the urban heat island effect.
Until now, nobody has tried to quantify how much atmospheric cooling could be achieved. In 2004, three California energy experts started to run the numbers. At first they could not believe their eyes — they re-checked them and ran them in different ways with unambiguous results.

The Federal Stimulus Package of 2009 earmarks funding for certain construction and green technologies that roofing contractors, if they have not already, should be gearing up to take advantage of.
There are also two tax provisions in the package that any small-to-medium business will benefit from in the form of accelerated depreciation schedules for computer equipment and off-the-shelf software.

Over the course of the last few months there has been a steady increase in traffic here at Roof Info. Our referral logs show that this traffic to be well-informed roofing industry type folk, which is exactly what we were aiming for.
In order to maintain readership and give them more variety, we were thinking why not set up a section for roofing job listings. After researching a variety of job listing sites on the Internet we decided on partnering with Simply Hired.

According to a message at the Roofers Coffee Shop they are having issues with a worm attack and have had to close down the forums. Worm attacks frequently scan the Internet for vulnerabilities in server software and it appears they have found one here.
